In life we have different levels of friends-- casual friends, dear friends, and friends who are like family to us. Pick a day of the week when you always have a little time that is free, like Thursday perhaps, and phone talk or video chat with one or two people whom you consider a friend. Catch up on news, things to pray for together, and ways you may serve others.
Jesus was friend to all His followers but especially to Peter, James, John, and Lazarus, Mary Magdalene, Mary and Martha of Bethany (near Jerusalem). We can tell from reading Scripture that these friends were like family to Him and He especially cherished unique personalities. Each close friend was different and their commonality was each one's great faith in Him.
Friends double the joy of living and share with us when we have sorrow, lifting it a bit. They'll listen when we have concerns and some friends are really great at helping us figure out a problem before us. They're God-sent! Yet, when it feels like you are doing all the work in a friendship please just push that feeling aside and know that our Lord is using you always to serve others like He does-- with God's love, kindness, and hospitality.
Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. 10 For if they fall, one will lift up the other; but woe to one who is alone and falls and does not have another to help. 11 Again, if two lie together, they keep warm; but how can one keep warm alone? 12 And though one might prevail against another, two will withstand one. A threefold cord is not quickly broken. Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
