Have you ever pondered the question, "What have You done for me lately?" It's a question that reveals a deeper truth about our relationship with God. In Isaiah 43, God challenges us: "Do not remember the former things or consider the things of old. I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth; do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert" (Isaiah 43:18-19).
Is it possible that ingratitude can be expressed by celebrating the past and ignoring the present?
If you and I cannot point to something that Jesus has been doing for us lately then we have not been as attentive to Him as we ought to be. Jesus’ Resurrection shows us He is alive! So we ask ourselves, what new thing is Jesus doing within us and around us now?
Failure to focus on the now has serious consequences because we miss His blessing and miss viewing the fulfillment of His promises. Alternatively, when we sense how Holy Spirit is now active then we are expecting something new. When we embrace truth and justice alive within our hearts then Holy sensitivity increases-- it is wonderful what Christ is doing right before us! Others may not notice yet we see Christ’s activity and rejoice! Why? Your salvation makes it so.
I pray for you to have a sensitive spirit, perceptive eyes, and a sanctified imagination. What Christ is doing among us now is causing us to look for the works of God.
With you in Christ Jesus, Rev. Walker
