Love Always Protects

My sister Margaret had a protector until she could walk and that was me. She and I shared a room and the first time I protected her was when she dangerously got her head stuck between the crib bars and was screaming.  I ran for my Mom, who was already running for our room.  Mom shoved her head back through the bars then grabbed both of us and we three cried together.

Apostle Paul named protection as one aspect of Love that Christians hold dear, ‘Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.’  1 Corinthians 13:6b-7. Love's fount is from God’s Grace, which always protects.

We directly participate with God in Love, and out of that springs belief and hope found in the matrix of God’s Love.  To protect someone else, or a group of people, out of Love is to secure their safety and treat others with great patience.  To protect the ones who “Father, forgive them they do not know what they do,”  or they are the ones who are being harmed by someone else—  we Lovingly protect as Holy Spirit directs.

Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears.   1 Corinthians 13:8-10 NRSV
