So let’s do it—full of belief, confident that we’re presentable inside and out. Let’s keep a firm grip on the promises that keep us going. He always keeps His word. Let’s see how inventive we can be in encouraging love and helping out, not avoiding worshiping together as some do but spurring each other on, especially as we see the big Day approaching. Hebrews 10:24-25 The Message Bible
We are inventive in encouraging others to love and active goodness when we tell each other about God’s activity in our lives.
A few years ago I participated in a a neighborhood yard sale. A neighbor pre-advertised the block yard sale in the local newspaper, then we put used items in the front driveway and garage of a neighbor’s home to sell. The sale was from 8 in the morning until 1 in the afternoon. At one minute after 1, a man named Mr. Vigil, stopped to look at the green stove that was sitting out at the end of the driveway for sale. He was very interested in it and said that he would call within an hour. We moved the stove back into my garage, closed things down, then he called. When he came over to purchase the stove he told me this: He said that he was not intending to stop but saw the stove and wanted the measurements and price. When he went back to his car he saw that the left front wheel had a bubble where the rubber had completely separated from the tire. If he had not noticed this he would have driven the freeway at high speed to Vaughn, New Mexico (over an hour away).
Mr. Vigil said that he really was on his way to Vaughn and would not have stopped except that he saw the green stove at the garage sale, and he then wanted the information about it. Due to the dangerous condition of the tire, he slowly drove the long way home on side streets, avoiding the freeway. When he got home, he told his wife about how God showed him that his tire was dangerously bad, and he and his wife had a prayer together thanking God for caring for them. After that, his wife asked him all about the stove, and insisted that he go and buy it because she had a friend that needed it. He then got the receipt for the sale of the tire from his dresser drawer and drove back over. After Mr. Vigil told me this wonderful story he paid for the stove and drove off to go and get his tire replaced before the store closed.
How God cares for us, guides us, and draws us near!
Let us meet with one another on the internet, in the coffee shop, at our homes, in churches, and witness with our stories of God’s activity to bless us. When I shared Mr. Vigil’s story with a dear friend, she exchanged her own story of just recently making the trip to the doctor to check on a potentially precancerous esophageal cancer diagnosis, only to have the doctor tell her that her condition is gone and that she is now healthy. The doctor wanted to know what could have caused her condition to disappear. “Eating the right foods, taking the medicine and praying for healing,” she said. The Day of the Lord is near us.
