After Jesus has driven the money-changers out of the temple, He walks to Bethany, Southeast of Jerusalem less than two miles. He is hungry and stops at a fig tree by the side of the road. The Son of God expects the fig tree to give Him fruit and yet it has nothing to offer.
Jesus says to the fig tree, “May no fruit ever come from you again!” And the fig tree withers at once. Jesus’ disciples witness this, marvel, and ask, “How did the fig tree wither at once?” Jesus responds that the tree responded to his faith action!
“Have faith and do not doubt,” Jesus says to us. Faith comes through prayer. Through prayer we are always checking with Jesus as to what choice we should make, what words we use, and instructed by Holy Spirit as to what action to take.
Through prayer Jesus gives us the answer and we do not doubt; we believe. This is His Power living through us. And it’s so easy our children understand: Faith In Action without doubt.
‘Jesus answered the, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only will you do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ it will be done. Whatever you ask for in prayer with faith, you will receive.” Matthew 21:21-22
