Your disciplined life is best when you take time to immerse yourself in New Testament Scripture. Why? The primary reason is that Christ Jesus is to return to us and we are to be ready-- Holy like He is Holy. The secondary reason is that the New Testament Scriptures align our hearts with God's will within the Kingdom of God.
Apostle Peter learned spiritual discipline as he was beside Jesus. Peter listened to the beatitudes in Matthew 5, where Jesus speaks about spiritual poverty: Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the Kingdom of God. Peter went to Jesus for spiritual refreshment and learning. In Jesus' words and Presnece you are given Holy Spirit understanding of what Jesus means and how it applies to your life.
In this way you're preparing yourself for action in the world -- the discipline of filling your heart in Jesus' words. In Scriptures and listening to Bible based sermons you hope again; hope in the Grace of Christ Jesus, receiving what He has to give to you as you spend time with Him.
Is it worth it? Yes, nothing is more worth it. Knowing that you have a busy life each day and this time alone with Jesus and Scriptures is a must to arrange, Jesus will keep you spiritually Holy and mentally healthy. Through Jesus you are able to reject the draw of the world's desires and be righted to His purpose for each day. He transforms your conduct and habits to be like Him; Holy.
Therefore prepare your minds for action; discipline yourselves; set all your hope on the Grace that Jesus Christ will bring you when He is revealed. Like obedient children, do not be conformed to the desires that you formerly had in ignorance. Instead, as He who called you is Holy, be Holy yourselves in all your conduct; for it is written, “You shall be Holy, for I am Holy.” 1 Peter 1:13-16
